How to learn and remember English words
Start with words you need: food at a café, tickets for travel, work and study in everyday conversations. Learn a word with a short sentence rather than in isolation.
Listen to the pronunciation, repeat the word aloud and recall its meaning before checking the answer. Use listening and translation exercises to test yourself.
Return to the words on later days. Regular recall is a more useful routine than rereading a long list in one evening.
Choose your translation language
American and British English share most everyday vocabulary. Apartment and vacation are common in the US; flat and holiday are common in the UK. You will also see spellings such as color and colour. After choosing a translation language, you can try either variety.
